Final Details From the Organiser:

Welcome to Cairn Wood, in its 26th year of use as an orienteering venue, and the final event in the 2005 W(ednesday)E(vening)E(vent) Series.

There are two courses on offer:

- the short course controls are all placed on or near tracks. The course has been designed to maximise the difference between the straight line (2K) and the track routes (3.15K). If you decide to take an off-track route just remember that Cairn Wood’s undergrowth is at its most virulent just now!

- the long course (3.43K) is the first attempt to introduce orienteering’s latest craze, micro-orienteering. At three of the controls, instead of being given a numeric code to allow you to check that you are visiting the correct control, you will be told how many kites will be located in the vicinity (code “A-D” means 4, “A-C” or “A.C” means 3). The kites will be full-size to distinguish them from the normal WEE flags. Your job is to punch at the kite which you consider to be correctly placed and you may punch only once. If you punch at a wrong kite, you will have to run a punishment loop at the end of your course, the time taken for this being added to your course time. The length of your punishment loop will depend on the number of wrong decisions you made on your course.

Have fun!
