Post-Event Report

I hope you all enjoyed your evening run round the beautiful gardens of Botanic and through the Queens buildings. Was anyone tempted to stop for a glass of bubbly in Queens quadrangle?

I'm always interested to hear feedback after an event (keep it clean!) and I think the sprint detail caught out a few tonight. Next week is all parkland and again has some interesting detail to keep you on your toes.

That next event is at Musgrave Park on Wednesday 25th August. Then WEST takes over our Wednesday evenings in September, and we have weekend orienteering the first weekend in September. Keep an eye on the main LVO website and the LVO facebook site. If you have taken part in a WEE (or even if you haven't!) then these events will suit you.

We have 2011 membership forms now available so please pick one up / drop one back at next week's event and start saving your £2 an event!

So the final thank-yous to all the team tonight - Davy Lambe for tagging control sites with me in the lovely weekend sunshine, Philip, Helen & Olivia Baxter for trailering, registration & starts, Andrew Lennox for registration & control collecting, Anne Bell for starts & control collecting and Christopher McClure for helping with the childrens passports. More control collectors Patrick Higgins, Paddy Cassidy & Declan McGrellis. And a big thank-you to Michael Gallagher who put out most the controls for me and then spent the whole event out on the course keeping an eye on the controls and warning you of the upcoming drinks reception.

I think I know the meaning of the term 'delegation'.

Looking forward to Jonathan & Seainin's event next week. Thanks to everyone who has volunteered to help on the night and please get in touch if you can lend a hand.

Instructions

Welcome to the penultimate WEE event of the year, at Queen's & Botanic Gardens.

Registration is in the PEC car park, with the start & finish close by. Please note the car park is for PEC members only Ė mere mortals should park out on the embankment, where there should be plenty of space.

Everything moves 15 minutes earlier this week so that the control-collectors donít have to spend the night locked into the park. So, registration from 6.15 pm, with last starts at 7.30 pm. The courses will close strictly at 8.15 pm. If you think itíll take you a while, then aim for an early start!

No need for full leg cover this week. Note that both courses pass near and (depending on your route) may cross roads. Traffic is expected to be light. Please be aware and give way to any vehicles. Please make sure kids are aware of this, and you might also want to keep your dog on a lead.

There is significant building work ongoing at Queens University. Iíve marked this on the map, which will be available for your perusal at registration. However, Iím no cartographer, so please excuse the overprinting and stay out of any building sites. This WILL affect your route choice.

Note also this is a sprint map. If youíre new to sprint then there will be a sample map at the chip van. Most importantly, olive green is out of bounds. Please also stay off the grass at the main Queens buildings.

Entries are £2 for members and kids - £4 for everyone else. This fee includes a pre-marked map and hire of a 'dibber' (all will become clear at registration!). Please try and reuse your map bag where possible.

We are hoping to have 2011 membership forms available at the event; just ask at registration. Join NOW and get the rest of 2010 free! You will get your own membership pack and can start saving that £2 surcharge for non-members.

If this is your first event, don't worry - there will be plenty of people about to help you get started. And finished if needs be :)

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday night!

Directions

Parking is on Stranmillis Embankment. See multimap link - the circle isn't centred exactly right but it's close! Registration from 6.15pm in the PEC car park - please walk in from the embankment.
