Post-Event Report

Thank you to everyone who supported WEE 4. The turnout was fantastic and we hope everyone enjoyed the courses set for you by debutant Planner - Michael 'map' Murphy.

This event posed a number of interesting challenges for your Planner (funnily enough not covered by the Hillsborough Training) including reversing the LVO trailer up a narrow driveway, defending the controls against vandalism and feeding the Organiser!

In spite of these challenges Michael thoroughly enjoyed the experience and was last seen leaving the slopes of Belfast Castle talking to his dibber muttering something along the lines of "...perhaps one day they will let me plan at beard standard". One step at a time Michael - put him down for an Autumn Trophy or hey, just put him down.

Congratulations to first timers Caolan McCormick and Jack Maguire. Caolan aged 4 would have been quicker around the short course but he insisted in showing everyone he met his new passport. I suppose this is understandably considering his mother did drive all the way Dublin to get it for him the day before his holiday in Portugal!

Performance of the night goes to new Organiser Mark Alexander. Mark left event HQ with everything running smoothly to have his run. On his return he witnessed the cream of LVO IT specialists playing acronym tennis as they attempted to get the printer working. Young Alexander calmly stepped into the burger van and suggested that the cable may be faulty. A few minutes later the cable was swapped and hey presto - printer working!

Finally, watching the planners and organisers at WEE 1, 2 & 4 meticulously account for their controls after the event - Brian Harahan's memorable phrase sprung to mind - "I counted them all out, and I counted them all back." All future WEE planners and organisers are strongly recommended to adopt Brian's phrase as their 'packing up the trailer' mantra :-)

WEE 5 moves to Barnett's Park, Belfast next week - we hope to see you there for more WEE fun!

Instructions

The final event of the May WEE series moves to the grounds of one of Belfast’s most familiar landmarks – Belfast Castle. Overlooking the city from a prominent site 400 feet above sea level you will have an opportunity to negotiate interesting terrain on the slopes of Cave Hill.

Two courses will be available – the long course is 3 km (175 m climb) and the short course is 1.5 km (70 m climb). The vegetation is generally thicker than indicated on the map and full leg cover is recommended.

Parents/Guardians should note the long course uses some remote paths which may not be suitable for unaccompanied younger children.

Registration will take place in the car park indicated on the map below from 6.30 pm, with starts from 7.00 pm until 7.45 pm. The courses will close at 8.30 pm.

The entry fee is £2 for members and kids - £4 for everyone else. This fee includes a pre-marked map and hire of a 'dibber' (all will become clear at registration!). Please try and reuse your map bag where possible.

If this is your first event, don't worry - there will be plenty of people about to help you get started (and finished if needs be :).

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday night!
