Event 5: Barnetts Park 1
|Date||Wed 2nd Jun|

|Organiser||Paul McArthur (e-mail)|
|Planner||Olivia Baxter |
I would like to thank everyone who turned up to last night’s WEE.
It was a beautiful evening and a total of 84 runners competed over both courses. As a first time ‘organiser’ I think I had it relatively easy as this week’s WEE coincided with the Belfast Orienteering Week. All the kit etc had already been set up and I would like to thank Helen and Philip Baxter for keeping me right over a few issues.
Thanks to Philip, Delcan and Billy for helping to collect controls at the end and a big thanks to Olivia for planning two challenging courses.
I would encourage anyone to take the plunge and help out as an ‘organiser’ or as a ’planner’. The WEE series gives a great platform to try these roles without too much pressure. I certainly will be volunteering again and I also have the ‘planner’s‘ role to look forward to at the Bangor WEE in August.
InstructionsThe first event of the June WEE series moves to Barnetts Park. The park incorporates Barnett Demesne, which was formerly a private estate landscaped during the 1830's. Today Barnetts Park is part of the Lagan Valley Regional Park.
This weeks WEE runs along side the Belfast Orienteering Festival and because of this there will be three courses on offer – the long course is 3.9 km (X m climb), short course is 2.0 km (X m climb) and an extra 'easy' 30min Score event, suitable for beginners.
The vegetation is thick in some places so full leg cover is highly recommended.
Registration will take place in the main car park beside Malone House from 6.30 pm, with starts from 7.00 pm until 7.45 pm. The courses will close at 8.30 pm.
The entry fee is £2 for members and kids - £4 for everyone else. This fee includes a pre-marked map and hire of a 'dibber' (all will become clear at registration!). Please try and reuse your map bag where possible.
If this is your first event, don't worry - there will be plenty of people about to help you get started (and finished if needs be :).
We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday night!
DirectionsCar park and entrance signposted from the A55 Outer Ring Road, near the House of Sport roundabout. Metro Services: 8A-8C (get off at Dub shops, follow Dub Lane).
