Event 10: Hillsborough
|Date||Wed 1st Aug|| ||Online entries closed at midnight Mon 30th July|

|Organiser||Philip Baxter (e-mail)|
|Planner||Alan Elwood (e-mail)|
A very unpromising Wednesday afternoon saw Alan and Andrew Elwood struggling through heavy rain to set out controls while Philip and Helen Baxter delivered the MOO and set out the start, finish and registration. Fortunately the rain cleared in time for 65 runners to enjoy a fine if muddy evening's sport around Hillsborough Forest Park.
A number of competitors reported evidence of rust, either in their navigation (control 2/9 and 3 on the long seemed to cause most of the trouble) or in their ability to run! Among other things blame was put on the Olympics, Australian beer, Singapore Slings and general idleness as holidays were enjoyed. With the prospect of Buffs up for prizes, now is the time to get out and run, ready for next Wednesday in Belvoir Forest.
Thanks to Alan and Andrew for planning, Helen for helping to set up, Olivia for running the MOO on her own (and Paul and Helen for taking over) and for control collectors Fred, Daphne, Lyle, Andy and Paddy.
The photos which Philip took at the event can be found at
If there are any pictures that subjects want removed, please let Philip know.
InstructionsThe WEE restarts this week at the beautiful Hillsborouth Forest Park. For those who have not been here before, the park surrounds a large lake with Hillsborough Fort overlooking it from the west. The area is enclosed by the estate wall and there are plenty of paths around which to navigate.
In the hope of a glimmer of summer, we will be starting a little earlier than usual so that you will have time to enjoy a picnic on the lake field beside the fort, where the start and finish will be located. Whether you eat before or after your run is entirely up to you!.
The MOO will be in the car park; the start is a 5 minute walk away. Don't forget to pre-enter on line by the evening of Monday 30th July.
DirectionsSee link to map below. From centre of Hillsborough head up the hill and follow the road through the square. 200m further on turn left (signed Forest Park). The car park is just inside the gates.
