It was great to see another good turn out in Clement Wilson Park this evening to enjoy some excellent orienteering – Thanks Helen for stepping into the planners role at short notice and for putting such enjoyable courses together.
We had 76 entries – with several teams returning from Markethill High with their Principal Mr Maxwell, and a few other families who were trying out orienteering for the first time which is always great to see. As has been said before by organisers of previous events, pre-entry is a huge help to those in the MOO so if you can then pre-enter next time, save yourself a pound or 2 and know that you are taking some of the pressure off those in the van.
After a few technical difficulties (mainly caused by me failing to follow a few basic instructions when setting up the event on the computer) thanks to Bill Simpson for sorting out the results and putting things back in order.
Thanks also to everyone who helped out on the night or who offered to help but weren't used – to Olivia and Daphne for doing entries, to Pauline and Richard for helping on starts, for Angela for helping out beginners and to all those who lifted controls afterwards. And to anyone who helped that I may not have been aware of. Unfortunately we had 1 lost control – the 3rd one on the long course which went missing after everyone had punched but before it was lifted from the forest.
So next week we are off to Musgrave Park where we hope to have another sunny evenings orienteering – and if you don't think you can wait 'til then you can always head up to the North Coast for this weekends events at Magilligan and Portrush.
LOCATION CHANGE: Due to a clash of events at Six Mile Water Park, it has been necessary to move WEE 4 to Clement Wilson Park in Belfast.
After the steep slopes and technically more difficult courses of Belfast Castle we move to Clement Wilson Park for the 4th event in the May WEE Series. As usual there will be 2 courses - a short course for beginners (approximately 1.8Km) or those that want a slightly easier course and a long course (about 3.7Km) for those prepared to try something a bit more difficult.
We hope to have registration from the MOO (Mobile Orienteering Office) fresh from its visit to the MOO wash - Registration opens at 6.30pm, and starts are between 7.00pm and 7.30pm. Courses close at 8.30pm.
Remember to use the new pre-entry feature if possible. Entry on the night will be charged at: Junior member/non-member £3 Senior member/non-member £5.
As usual there are fairly well grown areas of nettles and other "rough stuff" - perhaps less well advanced than in previous years but still participants are advised to wear full leg cover. Please also be aware of the water - The River Lagan and Canal should only be crossed at bridges - no-one is to attempt to wade or jump across or to use the pipeline as a bridge!
DirectionsRegistration for all from the Car Park on Newforge Lane from the MOO.
