Where did the sunshine go ? A very damp night was had by all, 48 in total for Paddy's two great courses. The usual mix of fast and furious, "He was fast, and I'm furious"!
Some great times came out of a very soggy Belmont, and just when we thought a time couldn't be beaten someone would arrive in faster.
Good use was made of the park area and several people fell foul of a couple of closely placed controls. Did you ?
My thanks as always to everyone who assisted this evening.
Colin for mooing, and all the other stuff he helped me with, Bill for his computing skills, Alan, Shaun and David for starts and to all who lifted controls, and again to Paddy for his efforts.
Right, back to Musgrave for next weeks wee, and hopefully our regulars who are running around at the Scottish 6 day will be raring to go.
Please keep checking the web site, as we have had several changes to our original programme. Can you imagine the embarrassment if you turned up at the wrong venue ?
InstructionsBelmont Park is the venue for Wee 10 and is a small park which straddles the Belmont Parkway (A55 Outer Ring) in East Belfast, between the Belmont and Hollywood Road junctions. The park itself is mostly open grassland, with some small woods and copses dispersed around the area, plus a busy dual carriageway in the middle (crossed by two bridges, you will be glad to hear).
Registration will be at the MOO, (chip van) from 6.30pm, starts from 7-7.45pm and courses closing at 8.30.pm
Please note that if you pre-enter, you can pick up your control descriptions and proceed directly to the start. If you pre-enter and are hiring a dibber, you can collect it from the MOO. Otherwise, complete the registration form at the MOO and then enter on the night. For safety reasons, please give your name, dibber number and course to the marshal at the Start.
There will be two courses available, called Long (the longer of the two) and Short (the shorter). Distances will be posted later, and as these are usually measured as the crow flies, will be longer than stated. Since you are hardly a crow, the distances for your route will be a bit longer, especially if you tend to wander.
Please watch out for other park users. Other orienteers are fair game for knocking over if they are the same size as you, but watch out for wee ones as we want to encourage them. It's just not nice to run into other park users either, especially if they have a dog
If you have a poor run or have a complaint to make, hugs can be provided back at the Moo, but please shower first. If you have any positive comments after your run/walk, I will be happy to speak to you.
Long course 2.3km
Short course 1.4km
DirectionsBelmont Park is just off the A55 outer ring road on the outskirts of Belfast. Registration is at the CIYMS car park. There are 2 car parks so make sure you're heading to the right one.
During your course, you may have to cross the A55 dual carriageway at least once. You MUST use one of the bridges - do not try to cross 4 lanes of traffic at road level as cars are bigger and harder than you.
By public transport take Metro Bus 3 from Belfast City Centre. The route commences at Donegal Square West and also stops at Queens Square, adjacent to the World Police and Fire Games Athlete Village. Alight at the “Ashfield Girls” stop. Walk 100m further along the road, cross the road and turn right into Circular Road. Walk approximately 1km along Circular Road to the carpark of CIYMS on the left, where the registration will be in the mobile office of Lagan Valley Orienteers.
