|Planner||Heather Cairns (e-mail)|
The last time the Moo rolled into Musgrave Park we were just about to welcome the WPFG to Northern Ireland. The competitors that turned up that night bought a few souvenir beanies, no such luck tonight as the weather stayed reasonably warm and dry for Heather's two fast courses which meant every second counted.
A total of 107 went for a wee this evening and I'm pleased to say we had a lot of positive comments back at the finish. A lot of new faces too, with promises to come back for another go. The overprinting was also considered by some to be a great improvement and I'm sure our Map-Master would welcome some feedback.
I'm also happy to report NO footprints were found in the flower beds at the end of the evening.
My thanks to team Cairns for a great nights O'ing, Ben, Ben, (no I don't have the hiccups) there were two of them in the Moo, Wendy for the incredibly long start list, Jeff and Billy for towing and everyone who collected in at the end. All left happy and well muffined.
I had one request for a post run hug, but I'm pleased to report this wasn't required as the result was better than expected.
LOST PROPERTY...... We had a wallet handed in and we were able to reunite it with its owner, however I do have a compass with whistle attached, and a set of keys (I do hope they are not house keys) otherwise you probably wont be reading this report.
If any of these items belong to you please drop me an email and we can arrange for their safe return.
So there you have it. Next week we are off to the Antrim Forum for round 6. If you are free to help out, I'm sure Billy would be happy to sign you up.
Hopefully see you all next week.
InstructionsMusgrave Park is the venue for WEE 5.
The park was opened to the public in 1924 and is named after Sir Henry Musgrave, who donated the land on which it was developed. For a location map and further details of whatís in the park, go to http://www.belfastcity.gov.uk/parksandopenspaces/parks/musgravepark.asp
There will be two courses available, called Long (the longer of the two) and Short (the shorter). Distances are 3.8km and 1.7k. These are measured as the crow flies. Since you are hardly a crow, the distances for your route will be a bit longer, especially if you tend to wander.
Registration will be at the MOO, (chip van) from 6.30pm, starts from 6.45 ish -7.45pm and courses closing at 8.30.pm
Please note that if you pre-enter,you can pick up your control descriptions and proceed directly to the start. If you pre-enter and are hiring a dibber, you can collect it from the MOO. Otherwise, complete the registration form at the MOO and then enter on the night. For safety reasons, please give your name, dibber number and course to the marshal at the Start.
Please watch out for other park users. Other orienteers are fair game for knocking over if they are the same size as you, but watch out for wee ones as we want to encourage them. It's just not nice to run into other park users either.
PLEASE STAY OUT OF THE FLOWER BEDS AS IT UPSETS THE PARK KEEPER AND LEADS TO MUDDY SHOES.
Areas will be checked for footprints and moulds taken at the finish may be compared, leading to potential public shaming.
Due to the hospital reclaiming most of the parking spaces outside the gates (where we normally parked the MOO) we will now be relocating inside the grounds at the bowling green. Please be careful on entering the grounds as runners may already be out and about.
If however you arrive and find all the spaces taken, would you please park outside the gates and NOT ON THE DRIVEWAY as we want to keep these areas as clear as possible for other users.
If you have a poor run or have a complaint to make, hugs can be provided back at the Moo, but please shower first. If you have any positive comments after your run/walk, I will be happy to speak to you.
