A big thankyou to everyone that came along to support our 7th WEE of the season in sunny Ballyclare.
Thanks to Lyle for planning and Angie for organising what was a smoothly run event. We almost lost the first control of the short course but thankfully it was locked to a tree so only the post was broken. We also managed to retrieve most of the Runners on Road signs which the locals had helpfully dispersed
As usual thanks go to Gavin in particular and his helpers for managing the IT side of things so well and to Stephanie for so ably running the starts. Thanks to Philip for bringing along his camera again and capturing some of the enjoyment of orienteering on film. Also to those who collected in controls or helped in any way - your contribution is very much appreciated.
Hope to see lots of familiar faces and perhaps a few new ones at Belfast Castle next week where Trevor Martin has 2 great courses planned - still league positions to compete for !!
InstructionsThe 7th of the WEE series 2014 is being held in the Six Mile Water Park in Ballyclare. This is mainly open parkland but with a small area of more formal gardens and rough wet marshy grassland! This year undergrowth and weeds are so rampant that the courses generally use the more open areas but that won't make the courses any less interesting.
As usual, two courses will be available on the night - there will be a long (approx 3.5 Km) and a short (approx 2.6 Km) course (Parents/Guardians should note potential water hazard if children participating)
Registration will take place from 6.30 pm, with starts from 7.00 pm until 7:45 pm. The courses will close at 8.30 pm sharp.
If possible please remember to pre enter online - This makes the job easier for the volunteers who have given up their time to put on this event. The entry fee includes a pre-printed map. If you pre-enter, you can pick up your control descriptions and proceed directly to the start. If you pre-enter and are hiring a dibber, you can collect it from the LVO Trailer (MOO). Otherwise, complete the registration form at the MOO and then enter on the night. For safety reasons, please give your name, dibber number and course to the marshal at the Start.
Please note the following safety information (i) Courses go through the car park and across access roads - Please be very careful crossing areas where there may be traffic (ii) The Six Mile Water river runs through the park and as such presents a water hasard.
As usual, all are very welcome!
DirectionsParking is in the Six Mile Leisure Centre Car Park where the MOO will be used for Registration
From the M2 – Junction 5 – take the A57 signposted Larne / Ballyclare. About 3.5 miles (over 1 roundabout) past Maxol Garage turn left into Mill Road.
At roundabout at end of Mill Road (just over half a mile by Modern Tyre Service) go left and at 2nd roundabout go right (Onto Ballynure Road) The Leisure Centre is on your left about 0.2 miles from roundabout.
