|Planner||Frazer Howe |
A good time seemed to be had by all 70 plus entrants which included regulars,visitors,family groups and some newcomers to the sport.
Thanks to Frazer and his dad Peter for the courses and preparation. Never easy to make a competitive course over an area very familiar to many competitors but he managed it. Well done. The route climbing up to,and retreat from, Control no. 2 (Long) on top of the mound produced a variety of approaches....long legs for jumping over fences helped!
On the Long course the more 'Senior' competitors were to the fore not just on adjusted Handicap but on original (scratch) times. Great running Phil, Heather,Lyle, Michael,Declan,Wilbert..."There's life in the old......."
A special welcome for Michael,an experienced orienteer from Australia,and his partner. We hope, whilst you are domiciled in NI that you will get many opportunities to join us again.
On the Short course several family groups including 'absolute beginners' joined in. I hope that we gave you enough fun to encourage you to return to this sport that endeavours to cater for all levels of participation.
Congrats to Ben,Grace and Jason,amongst others,for a good tight rivalry at the head of the field.
A venue out of Belfast,due to travel time, produces later start times so the organising crew on the ground weren't cleared up until after 9.30pm. My thanks to all the team who helped especially the Bell family,Harry,Anne and Susan(Lambe) and Wilbert H with much toil in the preparation and on the night.
Hope many of you strive to get to Lady Dixon Park this Wed., Over to you Fred.
I hope you are all looking forward to the Series restarting after the July break now that you've all had a WEE rest. Meet at the Antrim Forum car park and enjoy Frazer's navigational challenges in the beautiful Antrim Castle Gardens.
If you enter online by midnight on Monday you can skip the start queue and you might even win a prize in the random draw. And remember that you can enter all five August WEEs for the price of four!
Two courses as usual:
LONG 3.7k, 21 controls.
SHORT 1.8k,10 controls.
Tall vegetation in places (including nettles) so full leg cover advisable on the Long course.

NEW TO THE SPORT?: Please ask at registration and someone will gladly give you all the guidance needed to get started.
