InstructionsThe fourth event of the June Wee series is located in the University of Ulster Jordanstown Campus. Please use the JORDANSTOWN ROAD entrance, follow the road round to the left through the main carpark and continue round until you come to car park 5
This year the the June events are slightly different from previous years. There will be two courses but there will be NO results or League published as we switch our emphasis towards newcomers and coaching for members.
UUJ is the largest of a number of University of Ulster campuses and is home to the Sports Institute of Northern Ireland, a partnership between the University and Sport Northern Ireland, and most of Northern Ireland's leading athletes train here at their impressive facilities.
For newcomers to the sport and families there will be people on hand to help you get started (and finished if needs be.) As well as a Yellow (simpler and shorter) Standard Course and an Orange/Light Green (longer and a bit more complex) Standard Course we are going to be offering some coaching for those who would like it. Steph will be looking after the youngsters whilst Graeme will be looking after the more experienced. Following the coaching you'll get a chance to practice to see how you're doing, and after that if you still have some energy you can go and do the short or long and put your refreshed skill in to action. For those who just want a run out over the traditional fayre please continue as usual.
The long course is about 3.5Km in straight lines - a bit longer if you run around the buildings, and the shorter course is about 2.3Km
Registration will be at the MOO 🐮, (mobile orienteering office) from 6.30pm, starts from 6.45 ish - 7.45pm and courses closing at 8.30.pm. Please note that if you pre-enter, you can pick up your control descriptions and proceed directly to the start. If you pre-enter and are hiring a dibber, you can collect it from the MOO. Otherwise, complete the registration form at the MOO and then enter on the night. For safety reasons, please give your name, dibber number and course to the marshal at the Start. If you are bringing a group, please let us know in advance as it speeds things up on the night.
The course will have some ‘urban’ sections as well as some open grassland and playing field areas. Although the courses are designed to avoid the entry and exit roads please be aware that there will be some traffic within the university campus especially for young orienteers.
There is an exit fee for the car parks so depending on your arrival time you may have to pay at one of the ticket machines before you can exit.
We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday night!
