Handicap Adjustment Factor

When competing in any orienteering event, there are a number of standard age classes in which you can compete. By indicating your age class on the registration slip at the WEE series, we will be able to allocate a hanidcapped time for your run. Thus all competitors can compete against each other, independent of their actual age.

The following adjustment factors will be used in the 2006 series. The adjustment factors used have been derived from a number of sources, but are experimental in 2006. A slight adjustment has been made to the percentages for use in the second part of the series (August). This adjustment is to try and increase the competitiveness between the different age categories. There seemed to be a slight bias favouring the older age categories in May.

It should be noted that the ages used to decide which class you belong to, is the age that you will be on 31st December 2006.
