"I had planned to take the small path
going through into the open grass going to the first control, however
I missed it when running and kept going and ran on till the road,
which worked ok but seemed to have lost time in comparison to others.
On the long legs 3 and 6 I went as straight
as I could, slowly through the odd patch of nettles, but I was able
to use this time for planning the upcoming legs. However with both
these opportunities I didn’t manage to spot the path going
straight to number 7.
I made a mistake in trying to cut through
the bushes on the way number 8 and ended up caught, having to fight
my way through, but had I ran an extra 25 metres round the bushes
I would have saved a lot more time, but hindsight is a wonderful
thing!
Number 9 was proper sprint orienteering,
hopping across the stepping stones although it seems it was faster
to go round the edge, but was it as enjoyable?!
I got caught in a small hedge which caught
me for surprise on the way to 13, where I later stood scratching
my head rechecking my descriptions and wondering was it on the bolder
marked on the map?!
I cut through the open area again on the
way to 14, although straighter it seems it was faster to go round
the road, or perhaps I’m not running fast enough!
Thanks to Declan for a very enjoyable course.
Roll on Ormeau Park!"
