Event Seven

My Perspective

All I can say is "whaoo". We were definitely taken by surprise by the number of people turning up for the event at Tollymore. Pleasantly surprised I have to say. Apologies for the slow start in getting things ready, but it was a nice summer evening, so hopefully no-one felt too put out.

You can see the full sets of results in a couple of formats on the site. For the newcomers, it is interesting looking at the graphical representation of how you did at the various controls using the splitsbrowser website.

Since it is the first event of the new season, I haven't penalised anyone on the short course for missing any controls. You can see who you were by looking at the split time results. A couple of people did manage to miss number 183. One person managed to forget to punch the start box, and one person managed to forget to punch the finish box. An extimated time has been allocated to you both for the respective legs. Oh, and how could I forget - two people forgot to download after they had finished their course to get a printout of how they done ....

On the long course, a more strict penalty of 10 minutes was added for any missing controls. I had to do something to stop Patrick winning with the fastest time, despite missing a control! The penalty time for missing controls will be at Patrick's discression next week, so be warned...

Hopefully everyone did enjoy the event. I admit that the short course was a little more difficult than normal - so don't be put off coming next week because of this. The Delamont short course will be much easier, with the controls all visible from the path. I can also vouch that all the controls will be on the paths at Cave Hill (short course only). And if anyone happens to be walking around Tollymore over the coming days - keep an eye out for the one control that went missing - 187 on the short course. I'm sure a favourable time allowance will be given to anyone able to find and return it ....

All that remains to say, is thanks to David for putting on the event, and hopefully we'll see just as big a turnout next week at Delamont. I've placed a copy of the registration slip on-line so that you can print a copy yourself if you want before the next event. That should help speed things up a little at registration. (Registration forms will still be available on the night - so don't worry). And finally a big thankyou to everyone who turned up to support the event and make it a success. See you at Cave Hill.

What Happened- An Organiser's Report

A beautiful evening brought over 50 competitors out to Tollymore. Thanks to Declan for handling the (very busy) registration whilst I finished putting the course out! A good sprinkling of new faces- hope you all enjoyed the event. In retrospect, the short course may have been a bit tricky for some novices, but most people seemed to get round eventually. Thanks to everyone who turned up. Roll on Delamont!
